4th Grade Legacy Project

A project made to honor the legacy of a 4th grade teacher who was transitioning out of their homeroom position. Students collaborated on the work from start to finish, creating the initial idea together and planning the necessary steps for completion.

What is a buddy bench?

A buddy bench is a place where people go when they want to be invited to play! By painting the bench, people know that it is special. Kids at HLA-Northrop show empathy to others by inviting them to join the fun if they are sitting on a buddy bench!
At Northrop everyone is respected, heard, and seen. Buddy benches help everyone feel respected, heard, and seen by making everyone feel included.

Hopes and Dreams Wall

Each school year begins with students and Micayla talking about their hopes and dreams for the school year and beyond. In 2016 we wrote those hope and dreams on strips of outdoor fabric (in our school colors!) and weaved them through a fence to add to the playground for others to read.

Hallway Paintings

Groups of students collaborated on large-scale acrylic paintings on primed canvas and chose where to hang them throughout the school. The paintings have provided really detailed imagery for passerby to stop and observe.
Students chose two or three main colors and explored tints.
